Welcome to The Letdown
Do you ever feel /
like a laundry bag /
overfilled with clothes /
waiting to be put away?
I’m not the only one? Do you also sometimes hide in the laundry room to cry next to the warm dryer hoping the noise will cover up your sobs? Have you delivered a baby at 29 weeks and 2 days, another baby with an at birth diagnosis of Down syndrome, and gotten pregnant with an IUD at 39? I’m probably the only one with ALL of that. You might have one out of three though, and that’s why I’m here to share stories and snuggle up next to you if you find yourself in the laundry room.
The Letdown is a (hopefully) bi-weekly newsletter publication where I’ll dive into my journey with motherhood. I’ll talk about breastfeeding and pumping, raising a kiddo with Down syndrome, navigating the NICU and extended pediatric hospital stays, high-risk pregnancies, and trying to find time to train and qualify for the Boston Marathon. A decade-long attempt in the making since I keep having babies. Hopefully we’re done. I have another IUD in place…what are the odds? 0.01%.
To me, the word Letdown is a double entendre that celebrates the motherhood experience (and “Let it Flow”, the name of my breastfeeding journal was taken already). It’s the joy and relief when that breast milk starts flowing and the low moments of lost identity and overwhelm. The Letdown is the pain of unpacking expectations and the release of letting them go.
